Project Description

These days it’s rare to have the opportunity to work with such beautiful timber as Jarrah. We pitched the idea to use Jarrah  to clients Nik and Sally, to create the relatively small feature piece staircase in their beautiful split level bushblock home in Taggerty. Nik and Sally were delighted with the idea but made it quite clear that they didn’t want the staircase to develop any squeaks. This called for a frame of steel. Mike designed the treads to wrap around the ‘pointy plaster’, and we created a matching jarrah hand rail. With longevity in mind, we built a surrounding countertop and steel kickers, powder coated with a hard-wearing textured graphite to take the punishment dealt by a growing family of four for decades to come. These photos of the completed project were taken after 6 years of family traffic. Matt’s recently walked up these stairs, and after 6 years of being well lived in with natural house movement  – not a squeak.
